Ashura meant to reform society and maintain justice: Imam Khomeini

Imam Khomeini the religious and spiritual leader of the Muslim world made it clear that the purpose of Ashura and Imam Hussein's (PBUH) holy uprising was to reform society and maintain justice among the human societies.

The founder of the Islamic Republic used to shed light on the key pillars of Imam Hussein's (peace be upon him) uprising in his speeches and used to highlight the significance of the commemoration of Ashura.

This important event on the Islamic calendar, Ashura, occupied a large area of Imam Khomeini’s words and writings, through analysis and reading the contemporary implications on our cultures.

Imam Khomeini also believed that the lessons must be learned from this event in order to guide our Islamic nations to the important values and principles of Imam Hussein and his pure Household (peace be upon them).

The great leader of the Muslim world also demonstrated some of the dimensions of the revolution of Karbala.

The great intellectual of the Muslim world  frequently used to say that Imam Hussein (PBUH) was pursuing objective of maintaining justice among the Muslim society by his Ashura uprising. Imam Khomeini said in this regard as following:  

“Ashura is the Revolution of the advocates for justice, it rose amongst the few in number and great in faith and love, to face the oppressors, people of palaces and arrogant thieves, and its law is that this approach addresses the life of this nation at all times and all the lands.”

The great Muslim leader said that the holy prophet and their infallible successors wanted to reform societies so they accomplish prosperity here and the salivation hereafter.

“All the prophets came in order to reform society, all of them were of firm belief in this issue, namely, that the individual must give his all for society, and so Imam Hussein (PBUH) rose up according to this driving factor, and sacrificed himself and his followers. Therefore the individual must reform the community.”

The great Muslim leader said that the holy prophet and their infallible successors wanted to reform societies so they accomplish prosperity here and the salivation hereafter.
