The great Imam used to frequently underscore deep spiritual relations between the Day of Arafah and the tragic event of Ashura. The great intellectuals used to release special messages or delivered speeches on such an occasion.
The great scholar of the Muslim world emphasized that such days should be celebrated in remembrance of God the Almighty and to revive and spread the Islamic, social and moral values across the Muslim world.
Imam interpreted such events on the Islamic calendar as signs of God and called it as an opportunity for correction and improvement of worldly and spiritual affairs.
Zil-Hajj 9th, is the day of Arafah. The famous supplication of Imam Hussein is recommended to be recited (in the afternoon). Imam Hussein (peace be upon him) has recited this supplication before leaving Mecca to Karbala on the Zil-Hajj 9th of 60 Hijri.
The day of Arafah is one of the most sacred days of the Islamic Calendar. On this day Allah invites his devotees towards his worship and obedience, and spreads his bounties and blessings.
Imam Zayn ul-Abidin, the son of Imam Hussein (peace be upon them) says about this great day: "O God, this is the day of Arafah a day which you have made noble, given honor and magnified within it. You have spread your mercy, showed kindness through your pardon, made plentiful your giving and by it you have been gracious towards your servants."
There has also narrated that once Imam Zayn ul-Abidin saw a man begging from people on the day of Arafah and said “Woe unto you that on a day like this you are asking from other than God. This is a day when the mercy and grace of Allah reaches (even) the fetus in the womb."
For the Muslim, the necessary personal concomitant of professing God's Unity is devotion to Him. The outward dimension of this devotion is shaped by the spiritual injunctions concerning worship: the canonical prayer, whether mandatory or recommended, fasting, pilgrimage, almsgiving, etc.
According to mystics, Prayer in Islam can be divided into four basic forms: canonical prayer (salat), supplication (dua'), litany (wird) and invocation (dhikr) and these all play crucial role in building a perfect spiritual society.
Imam Khomeini was an unmatchable scale of great mystic, poet, philosopher, theologian and intellectual of the Muslim world and his guidance and dynamic thought have revived the genuine Islamic teachings in contemporary era and will be ever remembered for the centuries to come.
