Seyyed Hassan Khomeini censures desperate attempts to change name of Persian Gulf

Seyyed Hassan Khomeini's says whoever seek to change the historical name of the Persian Gulf have made a fool and fun of themselves.

Referring to the speculations and whispers that US President Donald Trump might change the name of the Persian Gulf, the grandson of Imam Khomeini said: "The Persian Gulf has always been as it is, and those who seek to change its name have made a fool of themselves."

The reputed scholar made remarks in a meeting with the head and aid workers of the Red Crescent Society of the Islamic Republic of Iran. 

Many may want to pronounce the name of the Persian Gulf differently, he said

"But it has always been the Persian Gulf, and those who want to change its name have made a fool of themselves," Seyyed Hassan Khomeini stressed. 

On Wednesday, Iranian foreign minister said such desperate attempt were politically motivated.

“Politically motivated attempts to alter the historically established name of the Persian Gulf are indicative of hostile intent toward Iran and its people, and are firmly condemned,” Abbas Araghchi wrote on the social platform X.

“Any short-sighted step in this connection will have no validity or legal or geographical effect, it will only bring the wrath of all Iranians from all walks of life and political persuasion in Iran, the US and across the world.”
