In a message released on Sunday, Seyyed Hassan Khomeini said that the incident had become a focus of sympathy and assistance from the people and created scenes of pride
The reputed scholar said that such assistance and scenes had nullified the troubled dreams of ill-wishers towards Iranian nation
He also hoped that the cause of the incident should be announced to everyone.
Seyyed Hassan Khomeini expressed his condolences for the deceased families and hoped soon recovery of injured people.
Meanwhile, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has arrived in Bandar Abbas to monitor response operations a day after a massive explosion rocked the country’s southern port of Shahid Rajaee.
Speaking to reporters upon his arrival in Bandar Abbas on Sunday, Pezeshkian said his administration is following up on all aspects of the deadly blast.
He added that officials were present at the port to take necessary measures.
He noted that efforts by rescue and relief teams from the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) and the Army were underway to contain the fire.
Before landing, the president carried out an aerial survey of the affected site. Later, he went to a hospital and met with people injured in the blast.
At least 28 people were killed and over 1,000 others wounded in the immense explosion that rocked the container port, which is located in Bandar Abbas and handles 80 million tons of goods a year.
Meanwhile, the Iranian government declared Monday a day of national mourning after the tragic incident.
In a post on her X account on Sunday, Government Spokeswoman Fatemeh Mohajerani declared the day of mourning. She expressed sympathy with the bereaved families of the victims of the “bitter” incident.
Hormozgan Governor Mohammad Ashouri Taziani also announced three days of public mourning in the province.
No military cargoes stored at site of blast: Defense Ministry
Iran’s Defense Ministry spokesman Reza Talaei-Nik, on Sunday, rejected reports that a military cargo was present at the site of the massive explosion.
According to investigations, there was no import or export cargo for fuel or military purposes at the site of the fire incident, he said.
He added that media speculations suggesting otherwise were part of a psychological warfare by the enemy.
He emphasized that the exact cause of the blast would be announced.
