Iran reaffirms support for Lebanon, resistance amid Hezbollah leaders’ historic funeral

Iranian officials, who are in Beirut to pay tribute to martyred Hezbollah leaders Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah and Sayyed Hashem Safieddine, have reiterated Tehran’s support for Lebanon and the resistance.

Speaking upon arrival at Beirut’s Rafic Hariri International Airport on Sunday, Iran’s Parliament speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf said that he had traveled to the Lebanese capital as part of a high-ranking Iranian delegation to attend the funeral ceremony for Nasrallah and Safieddine.

Qalibaf also noted that during his visit, he will examine threats posed to Lebanon and Hezbollah, and emphasize the strengthening of bilateral relations between the Islamic Republic and Lebanon.

“Iran will undoubtedly support any consensus between the Lebanese government, parliament, resistance, and people,” he added.

Similarly, Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei, who is also in Beirut, said the participation of the Iranian delegation at the funeral procession demonstrates Tehran’s position in solidarity with the anti-Israel resistance.

The presence of the high-ranking Iranian delegation at the funeral of Nasrallah and Safieddine, who are the two pillars of Hezbollah’s resistance, shows Iran has kept supporting the legitimate resistance of Lebanon and Palestine against occupation and aggression, he pointed out.

A sea of people converge in Beirut for funeral of martyred Hezbollah leaders

The ceremony will be held at Lebanon’s biggest sports arena, the Camille Chamoun Sports City Stadium, in Beirut later on Sunday.

Using US-supplied bunker-busting bombs, Israel assassinated Nasrallah, the longtime leader of Hezbollah, in an airstrike on southern Beirut in September 2024.

The following month, the criminal regime assassinated Safieddine, the head of Hezbollah’s Executive Council, in a similar attack.
