Born in Isfahan in July 1931, Ayatollah Yazdi served at different positions. Many believe that he was a cleric who was all the time concerned about political and social issues. He was the representative of Tehran province in the Assembly of Experts for three terms.
The Ayatollah was also a member of the Guardian Council which is the body tasked with vetting legislative and presidential candidates, supervising elections, and overseeing the bills passed in the Iranian parliament. The cleric also served as Iran’s Judiciary chief for almost a decade between 1989 and 1999. Ayatollah Yazdi also served as a legislator in the first and second parliaments.
In separate messages, the leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei and Iranian President Hassan Rouhani expressed condolences over the demise of this salient figure. The Ayatollah was laid to rest here in the city of Qom while a number of people and his disciples attended his funeral ceremony.
