On this historic day, Imam Khomeini, the late founder of the Islamic Republic, was warmly welcomed by millions of people who had converged on the capital Tehran from across Iran.
Imam Khomeini made a historic return after years of exile to the country which led to the victory of the Islamic revolution.
After arrival from Paris to Tehran, Imam delivered a speech, thanking all echelon of society.
Imam said in the historic address that he extends thanks for the emotions by all stratum, including students, clerics, farmers, businessmen, university and seminary figures, people from judiciary and all those who played a role in supporting the Islamic movement.
Imam’s arrival intensified popular protests against the brutal Pahlavi regime, leading to its downfall ten days later.
The day when Imam Khomeini returned to Tehran marks the start of 10 days of celebrations better known as the 10-Day Dawn festivities.
The historic day culminates in nationwide rallies on February 11 this year, the anniversary of the victory of the Islamic Revolution.
Imam Khomeini spent more than 14 years in exile while handling the affairs of the Islamic movement form over there.
The day, also known as starting point of the 10 Day Dawn is also considered as ten-day celebrations, marking the 37th anniversary of the revolution that toppled the US-backed Pahlavi monarchy.
This year special ceremonies are also planned at various venues and Imam Khomeini’s mausoleum in Tehran, which is located on the outskirts of the Iranian capital, Tehran.
The gatherings are attended by thousands of people from all walks of life as well as a host of senior state and military officials.
Special ceremonies would also be held in in dozens of Iranian cultural centers in Iran and abroad to mark the first day of the Ten-Day Dawn period.
