Ayatollah Khomeini was a Shiite Muslim cleric and marja, the political leader of 1979 Islamic revolution of Iran until his death. He was also a highly-influential and innovative Islamic political theorist, most noted for the development of the theory of Vilayat-e-Faghih, the "Guardianship of jurisconsult".
