Persistence on Commitment: From Imam Khomeini (RA) to the Martyr Leader (RA)

Reflecting on the path of the Islamic Revolution brings this question to mind that: ‘What is the element that has distinguished this movement from the usual ups and downs of political movements? In my opinion, the answer lies in the monotheistic worldview on which Imam Khomeini’s (AS) religious principles were based. His demise in 1989 was not merely a mourning event for the generation that accompanied the Revolution, but rather a great test to measure the continuity of a school of thought. The late Imam (RA) had, in an important statement, stated that the enemies should not think that with the martyrdom of our noble personalities, this movement would be extinguished. This important sentence has, following the martyrdom of the noble Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution, found a more concrete and historical meaning.

From the perspective of the late Imam (RA), the concept of ‘arrogance’ was not a political label but an ontological category inspired by the Holy Qur’an. In the 1960s, prior to the open public uprising and struggle against the Pahlavi regime, he had - with a methodological emphasis - warned about the usurping Israeli regime and correctly pointed out that Israel is ‘a puppet of America’ and it is America that instigates the Zionist regime against nations. Today, some analysts talk about the influence of the Zionist lobby in America, which, in my opinion, is an effort to actually justify what America is doing. According to these analysts, if the power of the Zionist lobby can be curbed, America will be a tolerable entity. In contrast, the late Imam Khomeini (RA) believed that arrogance is deeply rooted in the very nature of the American power structure and that unless and until this nature is eliminated, the relationship with it will be nothing more than a ‘relationship between the oppressor and the oppressed’. Recent events, especially the Ramadan War imposed on Iran in February 2026 and the enemy’s uncalled-for attacks, have once again shown the historical critical point at which the Islamic Republic stands. Meanwhile, the unjust martyrdom of the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution cannot be considered merely a security incident; rather, it should be regarded as a critical event in the country’s political and spiritual life. He was martyred, along with several members of his family, when he was fasting and was in his office and not in underground bunkers or outside Iran. The religious hadith, “ إِذَا مَاتَ الْعَالِمُ ثُلِمَ فِی الْإِسْلَامِ ثُلْمَةٌ لَا یَسُدُّهَا شَیْءٌ إِلَی یَوْمِ الْقِیَامَةِ"

“When a scholar dies, a gap is created in Islam that nothing can fill until the Day of Resurrection), is a perfect reflection of this event. The Martyred Leader of the Islamic Revolution was the most prominent and combative disciple of the late Imam Khomeini’s (RA) school of thought, who managed the affairs of the Revolution for nearly four decades and, despite comprehensive sanctions and economic blockade, brought the country to a level of deterrence that practically enabled it to confront the United States and Zionist regime.
